" The white women must cohabit with members of the dark races, the white men with black women. Thus the white race will disappear, for the mixing of the dark with the white means the end of the white man and OUR MOST DANGEROUS ENEMY WILL BECOME A MEMORY. We shall embark upon an era of ten thousand years of peace and plenty, the paxJudaica and our race will rule undisputed over the world. Our superior intelligence will easily enable us to retaine mastery over a world of dark people's. " - RabbiRabinovitch, Budapest conference of EuropeanRabbi's, January 12 1952.

It's possible that Disney is trying to test the waters and see what they can get away with in terms of quality of their films. Which is very sad to see. When I was little I saw them as this top tier studio that was untouchable and run by pure talent. Now it's more like 10 computers in suits trying to understand how movies work

Does the Feels Good Man documentary tell the truth that Pepe wasn't really an "alt-right symbol" until Hillary Clinton called it that and politicized the character for her own campaign? There was a strong push to show all the good and funny stuff people did with Pepe, but despite that the creator originally tried killing the character just to show his support for the politician who demonized Pepe and ultimately him

Great point about the Audio for Tenent. I watched it for the first time at home, but my friend refused to let me put on subtitles😑 Since about 2016 I started watching every movie with subtitles on. It’s helped so much, especially with movies that take place in different locations and the general mumbling in so many films. With my obnoxious friends that could not focus their attention enough to enjoy the movie, we simply watched something else. I watched Tenet again, although I still couldn’t piece it all together, I really enjoyed it. My 2nd time around watching by myself, I finally figured out what this movie was all about. Very few movies these days are so jam packed with plot twists, that you literally have to watch it multiple times to understand. But I very much enjoyed the journey through each viewing. IMO it’s not Nolan’s best work, however it’s well worth watching, and challenging yourself with trying to grasp what’s happening. Often times movies I love on the first viewing, after rewatching, I’ll question my own taste. The excitement of seeing a movie you’ve been looking forward to can oftentimes distort your critical mind towards that film. So with second viewings, my opinions can change. There are a multitude of reason we watch movies, and I believe upon rewatching them, you can critique the movie honestly. As the first viewing, we want to be entertained.

Tenet was insanely entertaining on first viewing though. Even if i was confused as all hell i was still entranced by the vibe of the music plus the mind blowing action, also i don’t get the criticism over the characters being emotionless, not every movie needs to have that kind of stuff, the characters in the movie are literally time travelling spies, they get shit done and they’re cold as ice. I felt like having them not really show their emotions throughout the film helped the scene at the end too. When the protag tears up when neil reveals the truth to him, i thought that was a powerful moment and people aren’t giving that enough credit.

Is English your first language? I know it's become a bit more of a thing in recent years even for English speakers, but I can't fathom why. Subs when you don't need them for language purposes break the pacing of scenes and the timed delivery of plot points, character intentionality, and so on (for simply being able to read the script before the film actually imparts that info the way it was intended). I do agree with the general criticism Nolan's sound mixes for dialogue don't suit most situations people view films in, from mediocre theatres to less than stellar home systems. I first watched Tenet with headphones, and there were maybe two lines I didn't wholly catch. And yeah, generally, multiple viewings of a film are hugely beneficial - some benefit more than others, clearly. I think most people suss out a Transformers film on a first viewing... Re Tenet; I was intrigued and impressed first time, but then it stuck with me, especially with the soundtrack which is incredible. It's just so damn stylish, that I just wanted to experience that brilliant merging of sound and imagery. Nolan really is a 'cinematic' director, in that he fully embraces the tricks of the medium to a heightened degree, e.g. the way he uses montages and intercutting melded together with the score, so - fittingly - time and spaces are unified and flow seamlessly (the prep for the Freeport job is a great example). There aren't many in the [big budget] industry right now who can match his use of score - Denis Villeneuve is one exception that comes to mind, and both have worked with Hans Zimmer. Interstellar's by far my favourite Nolan film, largely for its combination of cosmic setting and themes, and its sheer humanity (something Chris can arguably lack/de-empathise). Tenet lacks the immediate emotionality of it, but for me they're kindred spirits; one is about celebrating the enduring hope of endeavour of our species, and the other is ultimately about belief and faith in agency in the potential face of a deterministic universe. Two big, elaborate, high concept spectacles - but driven by a strong faith in humanity. Tenet is more obtuse and more textual about it, right until one of the characters just, well, *says* it... I don't think The Russian Bad Guy really worked, though. At times it felt almost like parody. A better, less ridiculous antagonist would've been nice.

While Mulan isn't the worst Disney live-action remake (that "trophy" goes to The Lion King), it's certainly the most disappointing. The Lion King was doomed from the start, as it had the inachievable task of matching hyper-realistic visual effects with the light-heartedm amusing tone of the original. But Disney was practically handed an excellent live-action remake with Mulan, and even managed to convince me they had accomplsihed that in the trailers. I do have a personal bias, as I would have preferred a more sophiscated and epic atmosphere in the original Mulan (it's still enjoyable though), but the point remains: they should have taken advantage of the opportunity.

With all of the Disney remakes they either water down the original or rely on nostalgia or more likely, both but Mulan in particular is incredibly insulting and fails miserably in the part they attempt to change. It's a misrepresentation of Chinese culture and fucks up the message of the original. Anyway I'm done with my monologue, it's good to see another video from IHE they're always entertaining.

When MULAN 2020 starts off, it doesn't introduce a young woman who's not stronger than most men but still a good fighter and who'll eventually learn that her intelligence is her best weapon. One who causes chaos around a matchmaker when she tries to help. It introduces a young woman who's had a _qi_ (a special energy) since she was a child. She's not responsible for the chaos, but the matchmaker blames her anyway. So she's a super heroine and everyone around her is either weak or irrational so she can look good? Luckily, this remake ends up being more balanced (and entertaining). It allows for the male characters (good and evil) to have badass moments, and it's not afraid to tarnish the title character's image by showing her vulnerability (she cries before the climax when she thinks all is lost). The action sequences suffer a little bit due to David Coulson's choppy editing, but not enough to prevent me from appreciating the choreography. Aside from a phoenix, the visual effects don't look bad. For a movie aimed mainly at children (despite the PG-13 rating), it's refreshing to see slowly-paced conversations with little-to-no music. Cri-Kee has been turned into a human character. I've seen that kind of idea in other Disney projects like the show ONCE UPON A TIME, so I was intrigued, but he doesn't get that much to do in the plot. Also, his name is Cricket! That's a whole new level of laziness and silliness! *Spoilers ahead!* In the 1998 version, there was a scene where the soldiers travel and merrily sing until they find a burnt village. It's one of the few times where it's OK to create a tonal whiplash, since it enhances the impact. As far as I know, it was the first Disney animated movie to address death in such a large scale. Not just the habitants, but also their fellow soldiers. They only spend 2 minutes or so there, but it's still enough time for them to process the tragedy. Here, when they arrive, the village isn't really presented as a surprise to the audience, and even less screen time is dedicated to that. Why not skip the scene altogether? When the soldiers come across the evil Rouran warriors, they shoot several arrows, and some of them flee. Mulan and a few others are ordered to follow them. I may be wrong here since I have zero experience in a battlefield, but is that really a good strategy? You need as many soldiers as possible, so why bother chasing men that, in your eyes, are mere cowards? What's the worst that can happen if they escape? There's a clever subversion where Mulan chooses to reveal her true identity instead of getting caught (as it happened the last time), but it's almost ruined when the others forgive her and agree to include her in their army without much hesitation. In the original, that took a lot of time. Not necessarily for thinking Mulan was a bad person, but because they had grown up with a certain mentality that you can't just erase overnight. I was confused as to why Mulan didn't cut her hair. Then, I read that it was common at the time for Chinese male soldiers to have long hair. OK, but didn't they wear their hair up so it wouldn't be an obstacle during a fight? Here, Mulan lets her hair down throughout the entire last part. Original - 8/10 Sequel - 3/10 Remake - 6/10

These live action remakes have no value to them. All these movies just simply feel formulaic and calculated. Cinematography is static and mechanical, the use of mise en scene has to be present in every single scene to where it makes the entire film itself look fake and manufactured, and just the aim of "perfection" Disney is trying to shoot for in these films, even though it's far from perfection, they want everything in the shot to be perfection which is a very bad thing when overused in a film.
